Henny Penny is a very old tale, if you Google it you will find many versions, not all end well! The ACT public library service has a picture book version by Vivian French and Sophie Windham that has a different ending to our Big Book version, which is terrific for contrasting the different versions of the story.
Lester and Clyde is a tale about two frogs living in a beautiful pond. Lester is a prankster and annoys Clyde so much that he says Lester has to leave. At the end Lester returns and they make up. There is another Lester and Clyde book called "Lester and Clyde Running Scared".
ACT DET has published two detailed units (about four sessions each) for years 1/2 around two Sails big books, written by Jill Eggleton. These are a little dated as they link to the old ACT curriculum document, but still useful!
If you have any McGraw-Hill Kingscourt books, there is a huge set of Year 3 lesson ideas for them. Some are traditional stories like the Three Billy Goats Gruff and Chicken Little, so they may be worth a look.
